Games Added To Grammy Awards
The gaming industry has catching up to the music industry in terms of profitability for a while now, but the medium has never quite managed to get mainstream critical respect.
That is all about to change, however, as video games will be added to the 2012 Grammy Awards.
That's right, Eminem and Call of Duty will appear side to side - so to speak - at the prestigious music awards. According to IndustryGamers (via CVG), there will be four categories in which gaming will feature - The Music for Visual Media, Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Song Written for Visual Media.
"I think this could be viewed as a first step in the direction of video games getting their own category," a representative of the The Recording Academy told the site.
"Many people from the game community have been asking us to create a special category for games over the years, but the main reason we haven't is because we have received very few entries from game publishers."
One can't help but wonder if games will soon make it into the Emmys. What about the Oscars?
Well, maybe not.
