Hackers Threaten Sony, Then Back Off
Yesterday we reported how a group of Hackers known as “Anonymous” brought down several Sony services and sites, including PSN. Today, the group threatened to further cripple Sony.
"Make no mistake, what you saw today and thought to be frustration is merely preparation for what's to come,” they said in a statement. We said, expect us. Counting us out, would be a mistake."
But mere hours later, the group backed off, saying it would suspend attacks on PSN.
"During the last few days, Anonymous has been targeting Sony for their outrageous treatment of not only PS3 users and jailbreakers, but also of the general public," the group said, according to Eurogamer.
"Anonymous is not attacking the PSN at this time. We have temporarily suspended our action, until a method is found that will not severely impact Sony customers. Anonymous is on your side, standing up for your rights.”
Exactly what the group’s next move is remains unclear, but the negative backlash from gamers has been very interesting indeed. It will be interesting to see how the proceed from here.
