Activision have confirmed that Modern Warfare 3 is indeed in development for the Wii, and that it will be available this year.
It is the first time that the popular franchise will make an appearance on Nintendo's console, which has traditionally shied away from such violent games.
Nintendo seems to be wooing third-party developers these days, and the release of Modern Warfare for the Wii is one of the clearest signs yet that the publisher wants to move into the hardcore gaming market.
The Wii, of course, championed casual gaming for a long time, but slumping sales have forced Nintendo to reconsider this strategy.
