Nearly 1.5 Million Want To Test The Old Republic
Electronic Arts has revealed that it has received nearly 1.5 million applications from gamers who want to beta test its upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
The game, which is being developed by RPG heavyweight Bioware, has been in the news a lot lately. Frank Gibeau, the head of EA Games, this week criticised World of Warcraft, claiming that The Old Republic introduced much more innovative gameplay.
The Old Republic has been in development for many years, but it seems that the game is finally ready to enter its final testing phase.
"The next phase will be to expand the beta testing," EA CFO Eric Brown is quoted as saying on CVG. "Up until now, it's been the EA friends and family testing program. We need to expand the testing universe, make it more open…The good news is that we have well over a million, closer to one and a half million people registered, opted-in, who are happy to step up and be beta testers. North of a million demand to do some free testing is a great indicator of the interest level in the franchise."
Brown made it clear that he wants to poach users from World of Warcraft’s vast player base, and estimates that the game could potentially reach 12 million people.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is due out later this year.
