No Console Version For The Secret World?
Embattled MMO developer Funcom has recently been hinting that their upcoming title, The Secret World, might never see a console release. The news was hardly shocking, as the developer also failed to deliver on its promise to deliver Age of Conan to the Xbox 360.
In fact, whenever a studio says they are working on a console MMO, you can almost immediately write it off as fiction. Even Final Fantasy XIV is looking iffy at this point.
"We are focusing on the PC version right now," a company representative told Eurogamer recently. "That is our primary market, and we want that version to be as good as possible…[A console version is] not something we're focusing on now. I think it will only happen if The Secret World turns out to be--as of course it hopefully is--a huge success. We will want to do things on other platforms; we will want to expand the universe."
In other words, don’t hold your breath. Considering how much Age of Conan is struggling to even stay afloat, it would take a miracle for this game to ever see a console version get off the drawing board.
