After months of rumours and speculation, Sony has finally confirmed that the PlayStation Vita will not reach Western audiences until 2012.
The console was originally due out at the end of 2011, but it will be available for the holiday season only in Japan.
This is a major setback for Sony, who has been battling to convince developers and consumers that there is room for a new handheld console in the era of smart phones and tablets.
The company also recently announced that the device will only ship with half as much memory as was originally anticipated.
Yesterday Sony also said that it is looking into ways for the PS Vita to be usable as a controller for the PS3.
