This week it was revealed that Sony has given up on the PSP Go in Japan. The handheld device has never sold well anywhere, but did particularly poorly in Japan, where it was heavily outsold by its predecessors.
It seems, however, that North America is not yet ready to abandon the Go. According to Gamespot, production of the device will continue in both the US and Canada.
"We are continuing production of [the] PSP Go for North America,” is all Sony reps would say about the matter.
Sony has been making a concerted effort to move emphasis away from the PSP and onto the NGP. It recently cut the price of all PSP devices in Europe, and seemed to be cutting its ties with its current handheld console. So this move is certainly a bit strange.
The most likely explanation is that Sony has some extra stock it wants to shift before the NGP hits.
