PopCap Being Bought Out By EA?

Casual gaming juggernaut PopCap is reportedly being bought out by EA. Electronic Arts is willing to pay $1 billion for the successful company, according to various internet reports, but no deal has been finalized or announced.

PopCap apparently generated around $100 million in earnings last year.

EA is always trying to get a finger into whatever pie is popular at any given moment, so this move certainly makes sense. PopCap is one of the most influential casual gaming developers in the world – they are responsible for Plants vs Zombies and Peggle – and would certainly diversify EA’s portfolio nicely.
