Samsung Shines As iPhone Sales Slow

After years of being the dominant market leader in smart phones, Apple has finally lost the number one position to rival Samsung, whose Galaxy phones have become international sensations over recent months.

Samsung shipped an impressive 27.8 million units last quarter, dwarfing iPhone sales of to 17.1 million units.

Samsung enjoyed a 23.8 % market share of the smart phone market over the quarter, compared to around 14% for Apple.

Analysts expect Apple to bounce back after the release of the iPhone 4S, but not enough to retake pole position. Most industry experts expect Samsung to increase its lead over the coming 12 months.
