According to various internet reports, Sony has given up on the PSP Go. Gamespot is reporting that the device is no longer being manufactured, and that stores will no longer receive and new shipments of the gadget.
None of this has been confirmed, but it seems a pretty likely step for Sony to take. The Go – which doesn’t have a physical drive and relies solely on downloaded games – has never sold well, and is being vastly outsold by its more traditional PSP cousins.
Sony recently dropped the price of the PSP in most regions, and is gearing up to release its next-generation portable, the NGP. So instead of being a surprise, this is simply the latest in a long line of moves by the Japanese company to rid itself of the PSP, and move on to the NGP.
The NGP is due to be released later this year, though there have been rumours that its release date might slip to 2012 thanks to the Japanese earthquake disaster.
