Star Wars Galaxies Shuts Down

SOE has announced that it will shut down Star Wars Galaxies, its long-running MMO based on the Star Wars franchise.

SOE has announced that it will shut down Star Wars Galaxies, its long-running MMO based on the Star Wars franchise.

The game originally launched in 2003, but has been struggling for years.

“We are extremely grateful to all of the SWG fans," SOE said in a statement. "We have had the rare opportunity to host one of the most dedicated and passionate online gaming communities and we truly appreciate the support we've received from each and every one of you over the course of the past eight years.”

Though SWG started strongly, a complete redesign some years into its life alienated many fans, and the game never truly recovered.
SWG will terminate on 15 December.
