Tokyo Game Show Will Be Smaller in 2011
The recent earthquake in Japan has affected the country’s many gaming companies in countless ways. Square Enix shut down the servers for its Final Fantasy Online games for days in order to conserve energy, and dozens of games were delayed or canceled outright.
Now the effects are spreading to the Tokyo Game Show, which is scheduled to take place in September. According to CVG, the Game Show might be significantly downsized due to the extreme amounts of electricity it will demand. The whole country is being urged to conserve energy as the government fixed the damaged nuclear reactors, and it is doubtful whether things will have returned to normal by September.
"Currently, we are not thinking of cancelling or making the show smaller," a TGS spokesman told Kotaku Japan (via CVG). But the spokesman also had a warning for fans of the expo.
"Depending on the situation from here on out, it is possible that the show is reduced," he said.
